Four firefighters were injured while battling a blaze at a home in Newington on Saturday.

The Newington Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire on Audubon Avenue around 1:30 p.m. and arrived to find heavy fire pouring out of a home, extending through the garage and neighboring homes, fire officials said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, which damaged the home, garage and multiple vehicles and caused minor damage to neighbors’ homes on either side, according to the Newington Volunteer Fire Department.

Four firefighters were injured while working to put out the fire and were rushed to local hospitals by ambulance. All were released from the hospital within 24 hours, fire officials said.

“As of this morning all firefighters have been treated, released and are doing fine,” the department said in a statement Sunday afternoon.

The cause and origin of the fire were still being investigated by the Newington Fire Marshal’s Office and State Police Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.
